Possible morphologies of Au Nanoparticles – Truncated cube

Compare the idealised polyhedron structure with the structures calculated for various numbers of gold atoms by Density Functional Theory.

The shape is truncated directly from the cube. In addition, the 8 corners of the cube were chopped off. As for the cube, this structure may prefer large size nanoparticles.

The structures were obtained from the literature (A. S. Barnard, Accounts of Chemical Research, 2012, 45, 1688-1697).
