Possible morphologies of Au Nanoparticles – Cube

Compare the idealised polyhedron structure with the structures calculated for various numbers of gold atoms by Density Functional Theory.



This shape adopts a fcc structure and can be used to create structures such as icosahedron, octahedron, truncated octahedron, cuboctahedron, truncated cube, cubo-truncated rhombic dodecahedron, rhombic dodecahedron and octo-truncated rhombic dodecahedron.

The structures were obtained from the literature (A. S. Barnard, Accounts of Chemical Research, 2012, 45, 1688-1697).
