Possible morphologies of Au Nanoparticles – Cubo-truncated rhombic dodecahedron

Compare the idealised polyhedron structure with the structures calculated for various numbers of gold atoms by Density Functional Theory.





This structure can be obtained by further truncation from either cube or truncated cubes (such as truncated octahedron and cuboctahedron). For example, the Au59 structure is truncated from the cuboctahedron Au147. Therefore, the shape may be observed in large size.

These hypothetical structures are presented for comparison.
