Gadolinium Orthoferrite – GdFeO₃

Preparing an ABO₃ perovskite (pictured right) with a Lanthanide on the A cation site can cause distortion of the structure (pictured left). In GdFeO₃ the vertex linked FeO₆ octahedra are tilted around the Gd³⁺ ion allowing for better coordination.
